Gov Ihedioha Criticized Over Plans To Build 27 Stadiums In Imo

Owerri-based lawyer, Emperor Iwuala has advised the governor of Imo State, Chief Emeka Ihedioha not to misplace his priorities. Governor Emeka Ihedioha has proposed to building 27 stadia across Imo state.

However, in a statement made available to journalists in the state capital Owerri, Iwuala declared that the initiative will not be worthwhile. He added that constructing a stadium across 27 local government of the state will not be productive at the long run.

Iwuala advised Governor Ihedioha to link the funds towards upgrading the popular Dan Anyiam Stadium, in Owerri. However, the lawyer praised the idea, but stated that the governor should be more concerned about channelling the idea to be used to a greater effect.

“The governor should analyse well before embarking on such a project; if he thinks it is a priority, he should upgrade the Dan Anyiam Stadium. “He should equip the stadium and install both floodlights and colorful scoreboards,” he said. Iwuala also asked the governor to build training pitches and renovate the Grasshoppers International Handball Stadium, Owerri.

“The priority issues in the state, for now, should be payment of pensions, salaries, and rehabilitation of road for easy movement,” he said. Above all, Iwuala urged the governor to fund security, healthcare delivery and power supply to boost investment in the state. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recently reported that the Imo state governor announced plans to build 27 stadia to boost sporting activities in the state.
